The Karachi Literature Festival German Peace Prize for Ali Nobil Ahmad
ZMO congratulates its fellow Dr Ali Nobil Ahmad, on receiving the 3rd prize of the Karachi Literature Festival (KLF) German Peace Prize to his book Masculinity, Sexuality and Illegal Migration: Human Smuggling from Pakistan to Europe (Routledge 2011). Based on numerous interviews with Pakistani immigrants in the UK and Italy, Ahmad analyses the illegal migration between Pakistan and Europe. He challenges the received idea that labour migration is driven purely by rational economic forces and examines the role of masculinity, irrationality and sexuality as possible motivating factors.
The KLF German Peace Prize is part of the eponymous yearly literature festival and is jointly organized by the Consulate General of Germany in Karachi and the KLF. It aims to recognize Pakistani authors of fiction or non-fiction, who contribute to the causes of tolerance, interreligious relations, and peace.
